31 Jul Anticipation in Animation
The principle of anticipation in animation in traditional technique is used for action preparing.
In this scene is for a rapid movement, the girl protagonist is going to get out of the field how a jet.
The technique is quite simple. From the first draw from layout is prepared an inverse structure of the body. That means that for instance, in this case, the protagonist has to jump in front. The anticipation has to be in the opposite arcs of movement. In the animator jargon, it is called “counter-movement”.
Therefore if the key pose has a rather vertical configuration of the spine, in the anticipation pose the curve must be rather convex.
The intercalation in between the key pose and the counter movement has to be very near to give a smooth movement.
In this case, the girl jump in front very quickly is necessary for a good result, another preparation with the arms for a proper push in front.
So the arms start with preparing movement stretched out in front of. That takes three poses after in only one in-between they bend and arrive at a final pose that helping the push.
For give back the illusion of very fast movement, the key pose before the out of the field has to be exaggerating.
The hair has a different animation life respect the body. So the dynamic has to be more fluently and light. That follows the theory of the “wave principle”. Or “line of beauty curves” like an S animates in an opposite wave shape.
How to say a guru of the art of animation Preston Blair:
“DRAW A LINE OF ACTION THROUGH THE THREE-DIMENSIONAL PARTS TO ORGANIZE AND SET THE ATTITUDE OR ACTION. CONSTRUCT YOUR DRAWING AS IF YOU WERE FITTING TOGETHER THE PARTS OF A PUPPET AT THE JOINTS ACCORDING TO A CHARACTER FORMULA. THUS YOUR CHARACTER BECOMES BELIEVABLE, AND HE ACTS, THE AUDIENCE EMOTIONALLY RESPONDS”.
This is the fourth scene of a 22 second of video animation. Here the girl is preparing to immediately goes to take her discount products.
Facial expression is amplified for underline of hungry for shopping girl. The exaggeration of the rapid cartoon action is also data from the ending frames. Here the girl is moving so fast that she came just a blur sketch lines. This continuo on the next scene to give continuous a movement according to the scene by scene.
In fast action that has to an impact on speed, the character has to take a stretch go, that why is used the effects of blur.
