Anticipation in Animation

The principle of anticipation in animation in traditional technique is used for action preparing.

In this scene is for a rapid movement, the girl protagonist is going to get out of the field how a jet. 

The technique is quite simple. From the first draw from layout is prepared an inverse structure of the body. That means that for instance, in this case, the protagonist has to jump in front. The anticipation has to be in the opposite arcs of movement. In the animator jargon, it is called “counter-movement”. 

Therefore if the key pose has a rather vertical configuration of the spine, in the anticipation pose the curve must be rather convex.

The intercalation in between the key pose and the counter movement has to be very near to give a smooth movement.

In fast action that has to an impact on speed, the character has to take a stretch go, that why is used the effects of blur.
